76 Trombones Herald Arrival of Garrison School Drama Club's The Music Man

After months of hard work, the Garrison School Drama Club is staging a rousing production of The Music Man Jr., a version of the Tony Award winning musical by Meredith Willson designed specifically for elementary and middle school performance, on Saturday, March 10th at 7:00pm and Sunday, March 11th at 2:00pm.

For the occasion, the Garrison School Gymnatorium has been transformed into River City, Iowa, where more than 70 students in grades first through eighth will morph into an unforgettable cast of skeptical small town folk and notorious salesmen. The production is being directed by well-known local theater professionals Joel Goss and Cat Guthrie, with musical direction by Tom McCoy. Nancy Wareham-Gordon and Fran DiSarro are serving as producers.

"More than 80 students are participating in the Drama Club this year, ranging in age from six to 14. That's nearly a third of our student body, which is astounding," observed Garrison Principal Stephanie Impelletiere. "Not every student wants to be up on stage, but we're seeing levels of teamwork and intra-grade cooperation with students interested in set design, technical stage craft, and ticket sales as well as our troupe of performers."

The success of the Garrison School Drama Club, particularly with last year's spring musical production and this fall's well- attended Talent Show, has influenced the decision to take on more challenging fare and has inspired faculty to integrate the musical into history, English and music class curriculums.

The Music Man Jr. is a part of the Broadway Junior Collection ™, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson and book by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey.

Tickets are on sale now and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 14 and under. For more information, please call 424- 6138.
