Putnam Valley Resident Chosen to Lead Peekskill St. Patrick's Parade
 | | Bill Powers, Host of Cable TV Coverage for 17 Years, Selected Grand Marshal |
| Bill Powers, who has anchored cable television coverage of the Peekskill St. Patrick's Parade for the past 17 years, will be in a different role this year when he moves from the anchor booth to the head of the parade. Powers, a Putnam Valley resident, will be installed as the parade's Grand Marshal on Sunday March 4 at the annual installation dinner at Crystal Bay restaurant hosted by the Peekskill St. Patrick's Committee.
The 18th annual parade will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 3pm in downtown Peekskill, starting near Assumption Church. The marchers make their way down Division Street, then turn right onto Main Street, then turn right onto James Street and right again onto Brown Street, with the parade ending near the Paramount Center. The reviewing stand will be located once again outside Cablevision's TV studio on James Street, where the parade will be videotaped for later airing.
The parade features bagpipers, bands, community groups, schools, Boy and Girl Sscout troops, dignitaries, police, fire and ambulance personnel and vehicles.
"Being selected Grand Marshal is truly a prestigious honor. I am delighted to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with my good friends in Peekskill. So much planning and so many volunteer hours go into making the parade and the dinner a success every year, that I want to thank everyone who is affiliated with this event for their dedication and for giving so much back to the community," said Powers.
Powers has received numerous awards and commendations from the City of Peekskill, the Town of Cortlandt and Westchester County for his community involvement over the years. The cable television industry recognized Powers with the 2002 national Beacon Award in media relations. In 2005 he received the First Annual Corporate Media Award from Habitat for Humanity for promoting Habitat's mission to bring affordable housing to Westchester County through the use of public service announcements.
