Training March 20 for DEC Pesticide Exam in April
Landscapers, turf professionals and others in the green industry need to be licensed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in order to legally apply pesticides. In the Hudson Valley region, a pre-exam training class is required in order to take the licensing exam.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam and Westchester Counties sponsor the half-day training, which will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, from 9:30am to 1pm, at Hilltop Hanover Farm, 1271 Hanover Street, Yorktown Heights.
This training covers vital information about the Core Exam, and DEC professionals will help with questions about Category-specific exams as well. The fee for the pre-exam training class is $50.
In order to register, professionals may call Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County at 845-278-6738. A registration packet will include a registration form, map and directions to Hilltop Hanover Farm, a copy of the DEC pesticide license eligibility regulations, and a form, which registrants can use to order study manuals. Study manuals are also available through Cornell Cooperative Extension.
All this information will also be available for download online at www.cce.cornell.edu/ putnam. While this training is designed to serve professionals in Westchester and Putnam Counties, it is open to all those in the region seeking pesticide licenses. Questions about individual eligibility should be directed to the DEC regional office in New Paltz, 845-256- 3097.
