Public Invited to Catskill Area Sugarhouses in March
Looking for something to do on the weekend that can involve the whole family? Love maple syrup and the outdoors? Mark your calendars for the 12th Annual Maple Weekend Open House, which will take place this year in the Catskill Region two Saturdays and Sundays: March 17, 18, 24 and 25. The event is free and open to the public and will run from 10am to 4pm each day. Maple Weekend will take place rain or shine; and visitors need to dress for the weather.
Across New York State, nearly 120 maple syrup producers will open the doors of their sugarhouses to the public so that people can watch maple products being made and sample freshly-made syrup. Sixteen producers in the Catskills region are participating in Maple Weekend with locations ranging throughout the entire region from Sharon Springs to Ossining.
In addition to tapping and boiling demonstrations, many producers will offer a variety of activities including horse drawn wagon rides, kids comers, and walks in the woods. A complete list of participating producers is on-line at www.mapleweekend.com; or a brochure and map showing locations of participating producers in the Catskill Region may be requested by calling the New York State Maple Producers Association office at 607 535 9790. Some Maple Weekend locations, or nearby community organizations, will offer Pancake Breakfasts that are also open to the public. Hours vary, so please check the complete list of breakfasts and other events on-line at
www.mapleweekend.com.
