Communicating About Climate Change: A Training for Teachers
Global warming- those are two words that create conflict and fear. How can teachers discuss global warming in a positive way in the classroom with a goal of improving student understanding of this complex issue?
At the Center for Environmental Education at Putnam/ Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services, teachers of grades 6 through 12 can learn how to explain the science of climate change, answer student questions, and present strategies for reducing global warming.
Communicating About Climate Change: A Training for Teachers will be taught by Melissa Everett, executive director of Sustainable Hudson Valley and an instructor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and author of several books. Everett was among the first 200 people nationwide to complete training with Al Gore and the Climate Project. The program will include an in-depth review of the most recent studies on global warming, organized responses to the problem that are emerging, and communications strategies for discussing this contentious subject.
The course will be offered June 27 and 28 from 8am to 4pm at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES in Yorktown Heights. Registration, including a $125 fee, must be received by June 15, 2007. For more information, call 914- 248-2339.
