| The Putnam Arts Council's 44th Annual Members' Exhibit and Member's Meeting were hosted on Sunday, March 4 at the Putnam National Golf Club. Exactly three weeks after the Art's Council's Belle Levine Art Center was severely damaged by fire, the Council's staff and Board were able to keep to the original exhibit schedule and organize this event.
The high spirits of the Putnam Arts Council "family" were not dampened by the fact that this was the first time in 44 years that the event did not take place at their gallery on Kennicut Hill Road in Mahopac.
The awards portion of the evening found Best-in-Show awarded to George Corbellini of Carmel for his oil painting "Maine Retirement". Honorable Mention was awarded to Constance Glickman of Somers for her oil painting "Snow". The sponsor of these cash awards was Herbert Thorne of Putnam Valley. The awards were determined by secret ballot of all who attended the reception.
At the "standing room only" Members' Meeting, reports were given by James Meyer, Chairman on the Board of Directors and by Joyce Picone, Executive Director of the Council and others concerning plans to move forward with rebuilding and locating long-term "temporary housing". Recognition was given to the many local organizations and individuals who have offered their assistance.
