Daedalus Quartet Returns Howland Center
The Howland Chamber Music Circle presents a return engagement of the Daedalus Quartet on March 25. Named for the mythical Greek artist and inventor, the Quartet, founded in 2000, quickly took flight by winning the Grand Prize at the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition and are soaring high among America's outstanding young string quartets.
The quartet, brother and sister Min-Young and Kyu-Young Kim, violins, Jessica Thompson, viola, and Raman Ramakrishnan, cello, was named by Carnegie Hall to participate in the ECHO (European Concert Hall Organization) Rising Stars program, through which it made debuts during the 2004-2005 season in many of the great concert halls of Europe, as well as at Weill Recital Hall for Carnegie Hall's "Distinctive Debuts" series.
The Daedalus Quartet has been appointed by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center as the Chamber Music Society Two quartet for the 2005 to 2007 seasons, an appointment that includes numerous performances and collaborations with artist members of the society. The ensemble has also been appointed Columbia University's Quartet-in-Residence.
The quartet is very active in music education and, through the efforts of the Howland Chamber Music Circle, will repeat its residency in the Wappingers School District.
For its concert at the Howland Center, the quartet has chosen to play Claude Debussy's String Quartet in G minor, Op.10, "Ainsi la nuit" (Thus the night) by Henry Dutilleux, and Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op.132.
The concert, generously sponsored by Dr. Michael R. McGarvey, will take place on Sunday,March 25, at 4pm at the Howland Center, 477 Main Street Beacon, and will be followed by a reception to meet the artists.
Tickets at $25 ($12 for students) can be reserved by calling 297-9243.
