Cold Spring Singer Songwriter Thomas Earl to Debut New CD at Chthonic Clash Coffeehouse

Singer/songwriter and BMI recording artist, Thomas Earl will be appearing at the Chthonic Clash Coffeehouse in Beacon at 8 pm this Friday, March 16th. This is one of Thomas' first area appearances in support of his newly released CD, "Golddust Magic". "Goldust Magic" contains 11 new original songs written and performed by Thomas. Thomas' musical style has been described as vintage acoustic rock, a combination of Neil Young and Bill Withers. TAXI, a California based A&R company has described Thomas as "An excellent, talented singersongwriter… classic songs and performances in the spirit of James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot." One of the songs on the CD, "Intermezzo" has also just been named a top ten finalist in the 2006 International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA) competition.

Several local Cold Spring residents were involved in the "Golddust Magic" project. Joe Johnson, owner of Red Wally Music Productions, who has worked with such artists as Keith Richards, Johnny Winter and Joan Jett, engineered the CD and was a co-producer. Jerry Krenach, another Cold Spring based musician, who has performed with such artists as Chris Whitley, David Byrne and Darryl Hall, plays drums on the CD. New York City- based session musicians; Scott Sharrard and Sean Dixon produced the project and contributed guitar, keyboard and percussion tracks.

Thomas Earl's musical jour- ney began in a small town in Michigan, playing in local clubs with then unknown and aspiring musicians such as Joni Mitchell, John Hammond, Jim Kweskin and Maria Muldaur. He continued performing and writing, working both as a solo artist and with various folk, jug band and bluegrass groups. He produced live music events in Michigan and Ohio. His music took him throughout the Midwest and to Europe, including writing music for a theatrical production tribute to the poet Langston Hughes.

In the 1970s, along with a number of folk artists, he began a migration into rock and roll. His experiences included a brief brush with commercial success with a group called "The Woolies". As with many struggling musicians who grow into their twenties, Thomas ended up leaving the music industry and moving into a more traditional career in the corporate world. He always continued playing, performing, and writing music whenever he had the opportunity.

Four years ago, when Thomas moved back to the East Coast and settled here in Cold Spring, he became re-inspired to begin focusing again on his music. Thomas, as most musicians, doesn't like categorical boxes people try to place them in, but his music tends to drift between folk/rock and alt/ country…all with a natural acoustic instrument approach. "Goldust Magic" is now available at iTunes and CDBaby.com. You can find additional information about Thomas at www.thomasearl.com or w w w . m y s p a c e / ThomasEarlMusic.com
