Butterfield Library Welcomes 4-H Puppeteers on Child Safety Day

The 4-H Puppeteers will return to the Julia L. Butterfield Library on Saturday, March 24th at 11am for a performance guaranteed to entertain children of all ages.

With their friendly Muppetlike puppets, the Puppeteers will perform four skits filled with laughter and fun with a positive story about getting along with others and being responsible. The puppets will be available for photos and autographs after the show.

The 4-H Puppeteers are a group of teens trained to work with puppets. The 4-H Puppeteer Players Theater is supported by a grant from the New York State 4-H Foundation, OCFS & The Putnam County Youth Bureau. If you are interested in becoming a puppeteer, call the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, 4-H Youth Development at 845- 278-6738.

Throughout Library hours (11am-2pm) on Saturday, a representative from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department will be on hand to register children with the New York State Safe Child ID Card.

The ID card features a current photo and fingerprints of your child along with pertinent information such as eye color, height and weight. The card can be made in less than two minutes and fits in your wallet. In the event a child is missing, this card can be immediately presented to law enforcement officials, eliminating the wasted time spent gathering information rather than searching for the missing child. The information can also be electronically disseminated within minutes and dramatically increase the possibility of bringing a missing child home unharmed. Operation Safe Child was created by Governor Pataki to raise awareness about child safety.

The Safe Child ID card is free. If you are unable to stop by the Library on Saturday, you can contact the Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse to set up an appointment by calling 1-800-FIND-KID.

To register for the Puppet Show and for more information, call the Library at 265- 3040 or email the program coordinator at mcgrathm@bestweb.net.
