Beekeeping Workshop at Glynwood

Rodney Dow, Master Beekeeper and Garrison resident, will be conducting the first in a 2-part beekeeping workshop at Glynwood Farm on Saturday, April 7. Although people keep bees for their honey, Mr. Dow will teach you about more than just honey: he will introduce you to the world of bees and the role of bees in the world.

Part 1 will cover everything you need to know about getting started with bees. Topics include hive location, equipment, disease control, bees' reproductive cycle, the sociology of bees, and the organic approach to beekeeping. No equipment is required, but if you have a veil and gloves, please bring them. Part 2, which will take place in late summer, will address gathering and extracting honey, as well as overwintering of bees.

The April session will run from 9:30 until 4:30 and the $75 registration fee includes breakfast and lunch. To register, please call Anita Barber at 265-3338 x 129. Glynwood Center is on Route 301 east of Route 9.
