The Dutchess Community College Office of Community Services is offering the Summer Performing Arts Institute, a noncredit program for students ages 8 through 17.
The Performing Arts Academy includes three two-week sessions running July 9 through 20, July 23 through August 3, and August 6 through 17, each from 9am to 4pm. The course number is MUZ777, and tuition for each session is $460. Extended morning and/or afternoon care is available. The fee for extended care is $45 per session for either morning or afternoon, or $90 per session for both. For information and registration, contact the DCC Office of Community Services at (845) 431-8904.
DCC's Summer Performing Arts Institute includes instruction in the fundamentals of theatre - acting, dance, and singing - culminating in a free, costumed production on the second Friday afternoon of each two-week session. Activities include theatre games, improvisation, scene study, musical theatre production numbers, dance instruction in various styles (Broadway, jazz, modern,) choral and solo singing, mime, juggling, drumming, and play writing. The Institute is located in the air-conditioned James and Betty Hall Theatre in Dutchess Hall on the main campus. New material is taught, directed, and presented in each session, so that students who register for more than one session will always have new experiences. No previous musical, dance, or acting experience is necessary in order to benefit from the program.
