Historical Stone Walls Walk to Take Place at Sterling Farm Preserve
On Sunday, March 18th at 2pm, Dr. Mitch Wagener of Southern Connecticut University will lead a walk that will explore the ecological effect of historical stone walls.
Stone walls are relatively recent in the natural history of this area, being built within the last 300 or so years by settlers clearing the land for agriculture. How they have impacted the ecosystem nutrient cycling and provided habitat for the communities of organisms of the forest floor will be explored during this program. Discover what animals make their home here, why they do so and what their impact is.
This program is sponsored by the Putnam County Land Trust and will take place on the Sterling Farm Preserve located on Couch Road in the Town of Patterson. This program is open to the public and there is no fee. For further information, please call Beth Herr at 845 228 5635.
