NYC Man Arrested for Drunk Driving
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the March 5, 2007 arrest of Franklin Altmann, 57, of New York City, on drunk driving charges in the Town of Philipstown. Mr. Altmann's arrest was the result of a traffic stop.
The Sheriff reports that at about 1am on March 5th, Sergeant Paul Boscia was patrolling along Route 9 in Philipstown when he observed a vehicle make a left turn onto nearby Stagecoach Road without yielding to oncoming traffic. Sergeant Boscia stopped the car and found Mr. Altmann at the wheel. During the ensuing exchange, the sergeant, who was assisted by Deputy Sheriff Jason Wollman, became suspicious that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and administered several field sobriety tests to him, which the defendant failed.

Mr. Altmann was also issued a traffic summonses for having an open container of alcohol inside his vehicle and failing to yield the right of way. The defendant was released on his own recognizance pending a March 19th appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court.
Each misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to a year in jail, a $1000 fine, and sanctions against his privilege to drive in New York, upon conviction. The traffic summonses are punishable by court-determined fines.
