Minor Car Accident Leads to Arrest of Staten Island Man for Suspended License
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the March 4, 2007 arrest of a Staten Island, NY man after he was found to be driving with a suspended license.
At about 2:33pm on March 4th, Deputy Sheriff Robert Hudson was dispatched to a minor car accident in the parking lot of Mobil on the Run, located on Bryant Pond Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. After ensuring no one was injured, Deputy Hudson conducted computer checks of the licenses of both drivers. This check revealed that the privileges of one driver, Anthony DeRosa, 24, of Staten Island, were suspended for failure to answer a summons in the State of Florida.
Mr. DeRosa was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. That charge is punishable by up to thirty days in jail, a fine of up to $500, and further sanctions against the offender's driving privileges. The defendant was released on his own recognizance pending proceedings in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court.
