How Can the Board Arbitrarily Decide to Ignore a Referendum?
Dear Editor,

I am confused, and I don't think I am the only one. Last November the voters decided that they wanted to support the Butterfield Library by making a budget provision that would guarantee funding every year, instead of the uncertainty of the yearly "gift" the town now gives. The Town Board has decided not to honor this referendum. Have I missed the public debate about this issue? How can the Board arbitrarily decide to ignore a referendum? I certainly hope the board plans to rethink this ill-considered position.
