The Rape of Foundry Pond Road To the Editor:
Beautiful scenery on a lovely, picturesque road! Hills and valleys, that's what you'll see driving along Foundry Pond Road. Be careful because there are steep sections with hard curves. Driving along this road you will come upon a section on which a large house is being built. This is one of the houses that the developer Alfredo DeVito is aiming to build on this site. He wants to build four of them on the high side of the road. Now look down on the other side of the road at the houses that will be devastated from the run-off during a heavy rain, especially after the driveways, right-of-ways, access road etc. are built.
The road, once a lovely dirt road, had to be paved some time ago; because of the topography the dirt road kept washing away after each rain. Even now it has to be maintained because of washed-out areas. The owners of houses on the receiving end of this problem have had to dig cut-outs on their property to deflect the flow of water away from their houses during rain storms.
Is this what we want for Philipstown? Our Comprehensive Plan was devised by many of our citizens to prevent this kind of devastating development. Do we allow a developer who is only interested in the greatest possible return to rape our community?
If yes, what will come next?
