Re: Butterfield Library Referendum Vote
Dear Editor:

Last November, the people's voice was heard - we thought. A referendum was placed on the ballot to secure funding for the Butterfield Library. The referendum passed, albeit by a slim margin, and the vote was never timely challenged. For those of us who naively believe in the simple genius of democracy, the vote stands and the funds that "we the people" instructed should go to the Library should begin to flow, right? Apparently not in Philipstown.

To my great shock and consternation, I am told that our elected representatives have unilaterally overruled the vote and have unlawfully refused to release the funds to the Butterfield Library. To my knowledge, no satisfactory explanation has been provided for this action. The Town Board must now immediately release the funds or provide some public explanation for its failure to carry out the people's will.
