Members, as pictured, include: Back row: Mr. Ryan Odell, Dan Faber-Manning, Ian Cummings; Middle row: Conor O'Leary, Ian Azcue, Melinda Cestaro, Mr. Patrick Cummings; Front row: Taylor Kuchera, Julian Santo, Hudson Smith, and Hannah Schmidt
On Saturday, March 3, the Putnam Valley Education Foundation (PVEF) held its annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction fundraiser at the Camp Combe YMCA Lodge, in Putnam Valley. The wine tasting was conducted by the Cascade Mountain Winery, of Amenia, NY, and auction items were donated by generous members of the Putnam Valley community- individuals, organizations, and businesses.

The evening's entertainment was provided by the talented members of the Putnam Valley High School Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Instrumental Music teacher, Ryan Odell, and assisted by local musician, Patrick Cummings.

According to current PVEF President, Lisa Spittal, the event, which is the Foundation's key fundraiser of the year, raised about $8,000. Each year the funds raised by the PVEF are used for educationally sound programs and projects that can not be funded by the District's budget. Each spring, school administrators, teachers and parents or students with the support of their building administrator, are encouraged to submit grant applications. These applications are reviewed by the Foundation's Grant Committee, which determines how best to allocate funds based upon each application's overall value to the district. To date, nearly $20,000 in grants have been awarded.

Ms. Spittal added, "We hope to stretch this year's $8,000 as far as possible. Thanks to everyone who donated goods and services for this wonderful event, and especially to the student musicians, who were simply amazing." More information on the PVEF is available at w w w . p v c s d . o r g pvedfoundation/index.php.
