Traffic Stop in Cold Spring Leads to Arrest for Marijuana Possession
A Westchester County resident was arrested on March 9, 2007, after he was found to be in possession of marijuana by a Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Department reports that at about 10pm on March 9, Sheriff's Deputy Brian Aisenstat was on patrol along Route 9D in the Village of Cold Spring when he initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle that failed to dim their high beam headlights. During the stop, Deputy Aisenstat detected the strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the 18-year-old City of Peekskill resident was in possession of a quantity of marijuana.
Deputy Aisenstat arrested the driver and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation punishable by a $100 fine. The defendant was released on his own recognizance pending an April 9, 2007 appearance in the Village of Cold Spring Justice Court.
