Putnam Valley Youth Accused of Making Obscene Phone Calls

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the March 6, 2007 arrest of a Town of Putnam Valley youth on harassment charges stemming from a report from a PV resident who allegedly received harassing telephone calls.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Sheriff's Department reports that Deputy Sheriff Brian Aisenstat was dispatched to a West Shore Drive residence, whereupon he initiated an investigation into the complaint. This investigation revealed that a 16-year old classmate of the resident made numerous telephone calls to the complainant at her residence. When the complainant answered the telephone, the caller would either make sexually explicit remarks or simply hang up.

As a result of the investigation, the classmate was scheduled to turn himself in at Sheriffs Office headquarters. When he failed to appear, Putnam Valley Town Justice Gina Capone issued a warrant for his arrest. At about 6pm on March 6th, Deputy Aisenstat, along with Investigator Christopher Spiconardi, executed the warrant, taking the youth into custody at his residence.

He was charged with Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both misdemeanors. The defendant was arraigned before Judge Capone and released on his own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Putnam Valley Court. During arraignment, Judge Capone issued a stay away order, prohibiting the defendant from having any contact with the victim.

The charges are both misdemeanors, each of which is punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000.
