Town Board Needs to Get in Touch with Their Constituents or Resign
Dear Editor:
The Philipstown Town Board's attempt to nullify the Butterfield Library referendum is not about some minor board of election notice infraction. It's about power. The power to control our budget even if it means ignoring an election result. Town Board Supervisor William Mazzuca said of the referendum passing (PCNR Nov. 22, 2006) "We felt that we have enough mandates from the state, we didn't need it from a local organization." It wasn't an organization but your constituents who mandated the decision on the library!
I certainly do not want to have my tax dollars go to attorney fees to fight a referendum that we the public approved. The people have spoken and if the Town Board members don't like it, I'd advise them to either get in touch with their constituents or resign.
