The Baroque Orchestra at Graymoor Announces Inaugural Performance
Twelve local musicians with Garrison native Scott Mettey as conductor will play together in concert for the first time as The Baroque Orchestra at Graymoor on Saturday, April 14th at 7pm. The performance, which will be held in Pilgrim Hall, will feature music from the 17th and 18th Centuries, including pieces by Antonio Vivaldi and George Frederick Handel.
Scott Mettey's love of performance and background in musical education inspired him to found The Baroque Orchestra at Graymoor, a string ensemble group formed in January of this year. "Choosing to focus on the Baroque Period just seemed to make sense both for the audience and the musicians. It is a key period in the development of ensemble playing. It's very mathematical and features great pattern work making it ideal for musicians looking to hone their playing ability. Plus it contains some of the most passionate pieces in classical music."
The members of The Baroque Orchestra at Graymoor are high school and college-aged musicians and their inaugural performance is part of fundraising efforts towards the purchase of a harpsichord, an instrument featured heavily in classical music of the Baroque period.
Cost of tickets is $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. For reservations, please call The Baroque Orchestra at 914-393-0805.
