Frank Cannas, Hudson Valley Artist, Returns to the Bannerman Island Gallery

The Bannerman Island Gallery in Beacon is proud to announce a new art show by renowned Hudson Valley artist, Frank Cannas. The show features beautiful landscapes and still-lifes offered for sale.

Frank Cannas graduated from the School of Visual Arts illustration program in 1958 and apprenticed with the Illustration Group before joining the Ross Art Studio in his first staff artist position.

From 1971 to 1997, Cannas joined Phillip Morris Companies Inc.'s art department, illustrating full color posters for company-sponsored horse, car, sailboat, motocross races and tennis tournaments, also produced graphic designs for company promotions and charitable organizations. Cannas began to exhibit in 1981, showing in national exhibits while still working at Phillip Morris. In 1992, The Artist magazine featured Frank's paintings with cover art and article about hard and soft edge painting. In 1997 he retired from his commercial art career and has been showing fine art in Galleries in New York, New Jersey, Washington, Ohio and Connecticut. In May 2001 he was featured with a front page review in Art Times by Raymond J. Stiener.

Cannas has always painted for his own pleasure and loves to paint outdoors. Now painting is his way of life and paints plein-aire or in his studio at home.

Bannerman Island Gallery also carries work from various Hudson Valley.

Fifty percent of the proceeds of the artwork will benefit The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc.'s (BCT) efforts to preserve Bannerman Castle located in the Hudson, Highlands State Park. The BCT just received a $350,000 NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation EPF Grant to stabilize the Bannerman residence to create an interpretive and visitor's center.

The Bannerman Island Gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 5pm, and during the week by appointment. An opening reception will be held for Frank Cannas on April 9, from 4 to 6pm For information contact Neil Caplan at 845-234-3204.
