Town Board Appoints Members to CAC and Recreation Commission Amber Stickle returns as Recreation Supervisor by Maria Theodore Leiter
At the March 14, 2007 weekly Town Board workshop, the Philipstown Town Board approved a title change for the Town's budget assistant Susan Kenney at the direction of Putnam County Personnel Director Paul Eldridge. Kenney's official title, which had been Community Liaison, will now be Town Comptroller. This position better encompasses the duties performed by Kenney, according to Eldridge's office.
The change, a housekeeping item that will not alter Kenney's function but will comply with definitions followed by other New York State service employees, was met with a joke by Philipstown Supervisor William Mazzuca.
"Paul Eldridge thinks her duties sound like a Town Comptroller," said Mazzuca. "So I now work for Susan, as Budget Officer. I don't know how that happened."
The Board also appointed Amber Stickle as Recreation Supervisor, replacing Suzanne Timmer, who recently resigned. Stickle held the position in the past.
"Besides having a baby two months ago, Amber has also gotten her masters in Public administration," advised Mazzuca.
In addition, the Board voted to transfer $7,000 from the Recreation Director's position to Stickles position, raising the salary from $33,000 to $40,000.
Another resolution approved by the Board appointed M.J. Martin for a two-year term to the Conservation Advisory Council.
"We now have a full complement to the CAC for the first time in six years," said Councilman Richard Shea. "We have a great group. We need to take them seriously and give them some kind of authority." Shea hopes that the CAC and the Planning and Zoning Boards will work closer together and begin to better synchronize their positions on protecting environmentally sensitive areas.
Andy Chmar of the Hudson Highlands Land Trust suggested that one way to give the CAC, which is now an advisory body, more authority was to make them into a board.
"We are getting more calls on decisions regarding wetlands and wetland buffer issues," said Chmar. The Board also approved the appointments of Stephen Schweikhart and Patricia O'Rourke as members of the Recreation Commission. Their terms will expire on September 1, 2013.
