Restore the Conservative Party to its Former Glory
Dear Editor:

Ms. Portman-Laux' letter reeks of sour grapes. While I was Chairwoman of the Philipstown Conservative Party and County Chairwoman, the Conservative Party was strong, vibrant and active. Our coffers were meager, but what we lacked in funds we made up for with enthusiasm and a quest for better government.

Not quite so under Ms. Portman-Laux short term as Chairwoman in Philipstown. And definitely not so now.

Yes, I was employed in Governor Pataki's Senate office. Whether Ms. Portman-Laux believes it or not, most of the Governor's appointees were more than competent; we had to work harder to prove our worth was more than a "political" appointment. I am proud of my years of service and I did quite a bit of good for constituents in the State of New York, Putnam County and Philipstown. When Ms. Portman-Laux can match my record of accomplishments, she can carp all she likes.

So, Ms. Portman-Laux stop criticizing, stop living in the past, and if you are sincere, start by working to change the Conservative Party in Putnam County and restore it to its former glory. Above all: "Get A Life".

Rose Braatz Former Cold Spring Resident
