New Exhibits Launched on Opening Day at Mount Gulian Historic Site
Mount Gulian Historic Site, along the Hudson River in Fishkill, begins its thirty-second season Sunday, April 15th, 2007, hosting an Opening Reception, free of charge, from 1-5pm.
This year's Opening will feature the unveiling of Mount Gulian's two newest exhibits. The Society of the Cincinnati: One Society of Friend" explains the founding, controversy, and continuation of The Society of the Cincinnati, our country's first veterans' organization, which was formed at Mount Gulian in 1783 by the officers of the American Revolution.
The second exhibit graphically tells the three hundred year story of Mount Gulian, from the initial land purchase from the Native American Indians, to its use as General von Steuben's military headquarters during the Revolution, its vibrancy as the Verplanck family estate, the homestead's devastating destruction by an arsonist's fire, and its reconstruction in the 1960s and 70s. Charles T. Lyle served as curator for both exhibits.
Mount Gulian's tour season continues through October 28th on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from 1- 5pm with the last tour at 4pm. Tour admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 16; children younger than 5 are free. There is no charge for members of the Mount Gulian Society and membership is open to the public.
