Tobacco Control Partners Appreciation Dinner Honored Dr. David Fine of PV Middle School
The Tobacco Control Partners of the Lower Hudson Valley hosted an Appreciation Dinner on March 29, 2007 at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, honoring people who live and work in Putnam, Orange, Westchester and Rockland Counties who have made great strides in reducing the prevalence of tobacco use.
The event was held at Tappan Hill Mansion, and featured Dr. Jeffery Wigand as the keynote presentor. Dr. Wigand is the Brown and Williamson whistleblower whose decision to go public with damning information about the tobacco industry was chronicled in the Academy Award nominated film The Insider, in which he was portrayed by Russell Crowe.
Honored at the dinner were Michael Prus of Good Samaritan Hospital, Andrew Marotta of Port Jervis High School, Dr. David Fine of Putnam Valley Middle School, and Greg Santone of Rocky's Deli in Millwood. All four honorees have made a significant impact on the prevalence of tobacco use in our communities.
Dr. David Fine, Assistant Principal at Putnam Valley Middle School, was honored for his efforts for creating and promoting a smoking cessation program for students attending Putnam Valley High School. Dr. Fine was successful in galvanizing support from the school administrators, faculty, and parents for this program. In addition, Dr. Fine has partnered with Reality Check, a youth partnership, where youth leaders speak to their peers about the effects of tobacco use to encourage them not smoke in the first place. Dr. Fine's leadership and commitment to smoking prevention and cessation, among youth, has earned him respect from his colleagues, students, and parents.
The Tobacco Control Partners of the Lower Hudson Valley are comprised of four New York State Department of Health Tobacco Control modalities including POW"R Against Tobacco, Tobacco Free Schools, Reality Check and the POW"R Cessation Center in Putnam, Orange, Westchester and Rockland Counties.
