Additional New Potassium Iodide Distribution Dates Set By Bureau of Emergency Services
The Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services announced today additional dates, in addition to the previously held within the Emergency Planning Zone that the Potassium Iodide tablets, also known as KI, will be distributed.
The simply salt tablets that were originally distributed in November, 2002 for a radiological emergency at Indian Point have reached the end of their shelf lives, and require replacement. All KI supplies from the 2002 distribution in Putnam County expired at the end of March, 2007.
Putnam County through the Bureau of Emergency Services has kicking-off a program to inform residents and people working in the Indian Point Emergency Planning Zone about the availability of fresh supplies of KI. The expired KI should be discarded with regular household trash.
The schedule for distribution is: -Philipstown: April 26, 2-7pm, VFW Hall, 34 Kemble Avenue, Cold Spring
-Putnam Valley, May 2, 2-7pm, Town Hall Lobby, Oscawana Lake Road, PV
New KI supplies are also available to be picked up at the Bureau of Emergency Services offices located at 112 Old Route Six, Carmel. Office hours for pick-up are 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday or by calling (845) 808-4000.
