Senator Leibell Honors Lions' Efforts to Prevent Blindness
On Tuesday, March 27, Senator Vincent L. Leibell (40th District) joined in honoring members of New York's Lions Clubs as they commemorated 90 years of promoting programs and efforts to prevent blindness and assist those who are visually impaired.
Senator Leibell met with twelve New York Lions Governors who came to Albany from districts throughout New York State, in recognition of their 90th Anniversary.
"Over 37 million people around the world are affected with blindness, and this organization makes such an incredible difference in each of the lives it touches," said Senator Leibell. "This year's Lions Walk for Sight, held on April 21, 2007, will continue to carry on the wonderful tradition of their work."
Walk for Sight hopes to raise $150 million to expand the work of the original Lions' worldwide program to combat preventable blindness.
"Every year, Lions groups raise funds for cataract surgeries, treatments for river blindness, construction of eye clinics and the education of eye care professionals," Senator Leibell said. "Their dedication to preventing and treating blindness deserves our respect and thanks."
