Applauds Spirit and Commitment of Today's Youth
Dear Editor,

I was truly moved by the inspirational story in last week's edition about the "passion and responsible character of the Town's youth." As an aside, I was disappointed that this wonderful demonstration of bipartisan youth activity was combined with another story that detracted from the pride we should all feel about our local youth, especially when we are barraged by the media with reports of an increase in our youngsters moving further toward risky behavior.

I fail, however, to fully comprehend the outpouring of national spirit toward the Iraq War compared to the scorn bestowed upon our returning service people from Vietnam- those poor souls were "forced" (aka, DRAFT) into a "killing zone" where 58,000 heroes were lost. If anyone needed an outpouring of support and home visits, it was our Vietnam Vets. This historical mystery does not detract from the current local proactive youth movement to ease the pain of war- I applaud their spirit and commitment to "do the right thing".
