Putnam County Schools Receive Funding From Keep Putnam Beautiful for Recycling Projects
One of the ways to help reduce litter is to encourage school students to become involved…to develop stewardship, compassion and ownership in their communities (and to influence their parents to do the same).
With the support of Putnam County Executive Bob Bondi and the Putnam County Legislature, Keep Putnam Beautiful has helped several schools this quarter to acquire funding. The funding has come from seedmoney grants from the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR):

The next deadline for grants is June 15, 2007.
Locally, the schools included are:
-Putnam Valley Middle School: Recycling Club, $400 to purchase shredders
-Garrison Union Free School: Eco-Moms & Eco-Kids, $500 for various recycling projects
-Haldane: PTA, $250, Compost and lumber for perennial flower beds, to be administered by Debra Ashenofsky and also Library, $250 to be used to purchase recycling and solid waste management books and DVDs for the Library, to be administered by Linda Merolle.
