Haldane Students to Experience the Magic of Reading
Magic will be in the air for students at Haldane Elementary School on Wednesday, April 11. As a special kick-off assembly for Haldane PTA's Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) Reading is Magic, magician Terry Parrett will be presenting a special program, "THE MAGIC OF READING." This exciting 45-minute magic show is designed to encourage recreational reading, and to show students how magical reading can be.
During the course of the program, Mr. Parrett uses magic tricks and audience participation to highlight the different genres of books students can read. He also uses audience participation skits to involve as many students as possible. During one segment, 8 students are brought on stage to play a high-energy spelling game.
The program, which helps to build enthusiasm for the reading event, is being sponsored by a grant from Target and the Haldane PTA. According to Maureen McGrath, one of the event organizers, "We were looking for a way to kick off the program with a bang, and "THE MAGIC OF READING" fits perfectly." Terry Parrett is highly recommended by many libraries in the region.
