Garrison Third Graders Showcase Their Women's Wax Museum
On March 29th, some of the most famous women in history were displayed in Garrison School's own Third Grade Women of History Wax Museum.
Culminating a month long study honoring Women's History Month, each of the third graders in Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Moscati's classes dressed as either the famous woman or a male figure related to that famous woman. They then presented speeches about these famous figures.
The students invited other classes to visit their museum and to watch them come to life and share who they were, and their importance to our history. Some of the famous women presented included Amelia Earhardt, Mia Hamm, Martha Washington, and Annie Oakley. The visiting students were thrilled to watch Annie Oakley throw a coin fifty feet into the air and shoot it with stunning accuracy. They also enjoyed seeing Sarah Emma Edmonds in her fatigues and Princess Diana presented by her two sons Harry and William.
The third grade students, with the help of Mary Palumbo the librarian, thoroughly enjoyed selecting and researching a woman to study, and then presenting their person for all to see. Danny Heitmann said, "I think the project was great because we got to dress up as someone else, which we don't get to do all the time." Kelsey McEvoy adds, "I loved presenting what I learned in front of five different grades." Each of the students should be commended for all of their hard work and effort. The children also would like to give thanks to Mrs. Knight and Ms.Champion, who helped them with this special day. It was an exciting event sure to be remembered by both presenters and visitors!
