Philipstown Greenway Committee to Receive $5K Grant
Mary Mangione, Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway, and State Senator Vincent Leibell are pleased to announce that the Philipstown Greenway Committee and the Town of Philipstown will receive $5,000 for the Hudson Fjord Hike/ Bike Trail Capital Improvements Feasibility Study. A feasibility, design and cost study will be conducted for capital improvements to the Hudson Fjord Bike/Hike Trail and its potential northward extension into Fishkill, Dutchess County.
The grant is one of 13 grants dispensed by the 2006 Greenway Conservancy Small Grant Program. Applications were received from municipalities and non-profit organizations from throughout the designated Greenway area.
The Greenway Conservancy Small Grant Program is an annual competitive grant funding opportunity available to communities and non-profits within the designated Hudson River Valley Greenway Area, which extends from Battery Park in Waterford, Saratoga County to Battery Park, Manhattan. The program offers funding for trail planning and design, trail construction and rehabilitation, and trail education and interpretation, with emphasis placed on trail projects that seek to further the goals of the Draft Greenway Trail Vision Plan. This annual program has offered technical and financial assistance to municipalities and non-profit organizations since 1995.
Mangione stated, "Congratulations to the recipients of the 2006 Greenway Conservancy Small Grant awards. Each, year the Greenway receives more requests for funding for trail-related projects than we are able to fulfill. This shows that trails are an important recreational resource here in the Hudson Valley. We are proud that we can contribute to the efforts of municipalities and non-profits as they work to improve the connections between communities along the Hudson River, ultimately resulting in a regional trail system throughout the Valley."
"The Hudson River Valley Greenway plays a critical role in helping communities preserve and enrich their beautiful, historic landscapes," said Senator Leibell. "I am pleased to see that this funding will assist in identifying projects that are critical to enhancing our environment."
