Plumbers And Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

The Plumbers and Steamfitters Joint Apprenticeship Committee of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Ulster Counties, Local 21, will conduct recruitment from April 2 through April 19 for 15 plumber/steamfitter and five refrigeration/air conditioning mechanic apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available in person only at the local, 1024 McKinley St., Peekskill, from 9am to noon and from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, Monday through Thursday. Completed applications must be returned in person by 3:30pm, no later than the second Thursday after receipt.

The committee requires that applicants:

-Be at least 18 years old.

-Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.

-Live in Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess or Ulster County.

-Pay a non-refundable $10 application fee by cash or money order; fee may be waived if

the applicant can prove that it presents an economic hardship.

-Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work.

For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the local at 914-737- 2166.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
