Putnam Valley Man Threatens Wife, Surrenders to Sheriff's Department
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the April 1, 2007 arrest of John Zarcone, 45, of Putnam Valley, on charges stemming from his threat to kill his wife.
Mr. Zarcone initiated contact with the Sheriff's Office on April 1 and reported that he just threatened to kill his wife and wanted to turn himself in to authorities. When Mr. Zarcone failed to arrive, Deputy Lee, along with Deputy Sheriff David Rampolla, went to the residence in order conduct a welfare check of the victim.
An investigation revealed that Mr. Zarcone called and verbally abused the victim before threatening to kill her. When Mr. Zarcone arrived at the residence, the deputies took him into custody. Further investigation revealed he was in possession of quantities of cocaine and hydrocodone.
Deputy Lee charged Mr. Zarcone with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Menacing in the Third Degree, and Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.
The defendant was subsequently arraigned by Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford, who acted on behalf of the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court. The defendant was released on his own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Putnam Valley Justice Court. During arraignment, Judge Spofford issued a "stay away" order, prohibiting the defendant from having any contact with his victim.
The charges against Mr. Zarcone are all class A misdemeanors, each of which is punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000.
