Laborers Recruit Apprentices

The Laborers International Union of North America, Local 754, will conduct recruitment from April 4 through September 26 for five skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the local, 215 Old Nyack Turnpike, Chestnut Ridge, from 9am to noon and 1pm to 3:30pm, every Wednesday during the recruitment period.

The union requires that applicants:

-Be at least 18 years old.

-Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.

-Have reliable transportation to work sites and related instructions.

-Be physically able to do the work.

-Take a post-employment drug test at an approved testing facility at the union's expense.

For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the local at 845-425- 5073.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
