Putnam Residents Team up With American Cancer Society to Fight Cancer in Relay for Life 2007

Putnam County residents joined the American Cancer Society at the Relay For Life Kick Off & Community Reception on March 29th at Putnam National Golf Club in Mahopac. Teans are forming to honor cancer survivors and to pay tribute to those who have lost their battle to cancer at the Relay For Life 2007 which is scheduled for Saturday, June 2nd at the Mahopac High School.

Relay For Life is an overnight celebration allowing individuals and teams to camp out, barbecue, enjoy entertainment and walk or run around a track "relay-style" to support cancer research, education and patient and family services in the community. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminary candles placed around the track in a touching ceremony to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost their battle with the disease.

More than 150 people attended the Relay For Life reception. Teams were awarded certificates for their outstanding job in raising over $337,000 dollars in last years Relay For Life event. Watson Laboratories, Inc was the top fundraising team in last year's event. The guest speakers at the event were Stefanie Schwartz, a nutritionist and Elizabeth Gomez, Director of Oncology Services at the Putnam Hospital Center.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is made possible by thousands of volunteers and community members, and includes numerous sponsors. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Reidy and the Mahopac School District for hosting Relay For Life at the Mahopac High School.
