Capuchin Ministries Honors Outstanding Teens and Adults at Awards

Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries (CYFM), located in Garrison, announces that it will hold its Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 28 from 6:30 to 11pm at the Holiday Inn in Fishkill. Held each spring for more than a decade, this event honors five high school seniors for their outstanding dedication to service to CYFM, to their parish, and to their community. The celebration also honors several adults for their commitment and service to young people and to youth ministry.

CYFM Executive Director, Tom Brinkmann, says, "CYFM is blessed to work with many outstanding teenagers. Many become dedicated leaders within our community and provide extraordinary service to their peers here at CYFM and beyond." Brinkmann further explains that teens, "prepare for and serve as part of retreat teams, give time serving the poor and elderly during CYFM's service projects, and are active members of their parishes participating as religious education teachers or in their parish youth ministry programs."

Fr. Fred Nickle, O.F.M. Cap., Chaplain at CYFM says, "This annual event is an opportunity to recognize the commitment and faith of teens who serve their brothers and sisters by awarding them with a modest scholarship." Brinkmann adds, "In addition to the teens, scores of adults selflessly volunteer their time and energy to nurture the faith of these young people and journey with them as they take action to serve others. Our community also takes the time to say 'thank you' and honors five outstanding adults during our awards dinner who do so much for our young people, reminding them that they are changing lives through their volunteer service."

For more than 30 years, CYFM has reached out to young people and their families through retreats, parish ministry, and service to the poor. During this past year alone, CYFM ran more than 100 retreats and programs for young people and families touching the lives of more than 7,000 people. CYFM's enthusiastic team of Capuchin Franciscan Friars, Lay Staff and CapCorps Volunteers plan and facilitate each of these programs. In addition, CYFM relies heavily on the time, talent, and treasure of its teen and adult volunteer support network.

Most CYFM programs are held at its St. Francis Retreat House in Garrison, on Route 9D, a 30-acre pastoral site complete with Chapel, meeting rooms, kitchen, dining facilities, gymnasium, and overnight accommodations. CYFM is a ministry of the Capuchin Franciscans of the Province of St. Mary.
