Loyalty Day at Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park
In the 1930s The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) believed that there must be a challenge to the disruptive forces of communism. They urged their members, all war veterans, to have events that would provide a counterpoint to the communist celebration of May Day. Thus was born Loyalty Day. The week-end that is closest to May 1st is celebrated as Loyalty Day.
The Putnam County Council VFW will host a Loyalty Day Jamboree at the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park on April 29 from 10am-4pm. This is a wonderful, fun-packed day for families to get out and have a good time at a summerlike event in the park and honor our country. Communism as a viable force in the world is gone due in large part to the United States and our veterans. Loyalty Day celebrations are still thriving while May Day is a mere memory.
This year the theme for Loyalty Day is a "Support the Troops Rally." They are asking the public to rally with them on Loyalty Day. Part of this rally will be a group from upstate New York called Flags for Soldiers. This non-profit group presents free American Flags to returning service member that they can find.
The public at large is invited to come to this rally and to bring banners and signs of support. Service members of our ongoing wars are urged to attend with their families. They would also love to have the family members of those still serving to attend.
The event is free and the refreshments are free. Please come to support the troops.
