Cold Spring Man Created Disturbance at Village Police Station
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Village of Cold Spring resident in a disturbance at the Village Police Headquarters on April 6, 2007. John Carlson, aged 50, of Cold Spring, faces several charges in the wake of the incident.
According to the Sheriff, at about 3am on Friday, April 6th, Deputy Sheriff Daniel Hunsberger was at the police station assisting Village Police Officer George Kane in processing the arrests of three other persons. Mr. Carlson, acquainted with the three people under arrest, reportedly went to the station and allegedly commenced pounding upon on the door and yelling for his friends. Deputy Hunsberger ordered Mr. Carlson to cease causing his behavior, but the latter continued his conduct and then became verbally abusive towards the deputy, shouting obscenities and making lewd gestures. Consequently, Deputy Hunsberger arrested Mr. Carlson, who resisted.
The defendant was charged with Resisting Arrest, which is a class A misdemeanor, and with Disorderly Conduct and Harassment in the Second Degree, both of which are violations. He was arraigned before Philipstown Town Justice Stephen Tomann, acting on behalf of the Village of Cold Spring Justice Court, and was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $3,000 bail bond. He will answer the charges in the Village Court.
The misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000 upon conviction. The violations are each punishable by up to fifteen (15) days in jail and a maximum fine of $250.
