PVHS Senior Kim Kastuk Receives Field Hockey Honors
Putnam Valley High School (PVHS) senior Kim Kastuk has signed with Boston University, where she will go in the fall to continue her record-setting career, as a Division One field hockey goalkeeper. In addition to setting a new NY State record for saves in a season (63) Kim was named to the 2006 Penn Monto National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region Team for the North Region.
Kim is the daughter of Paul and Julie Kastuk of Putnam Valley. The athletically and academically talented senior, a 5-year varsity starter, has a long list of accomplishments to her credit. In addition to leading her team to a New York State Field Hockey Championship in 2005, Kim was a 2005 Junior Olympic invitee and a National Futures Tournament participant in both 2005 and 2006. She was named an All-State player in 2005 and All Section in 2005, 2004, and 2003.
Pete Kuczma, Athletic Director for Putnam Valley, remarked: "I have seen many excellent female athletes. All are unique in their own position and sport, but all have similar mosaics that produce their drive and determination to succeed. Kim is on a par with all of those athletes who present a strong competitive spirit, determination, and skill level."
In 2005 the North County News named her Player of the Year. An NYSPHSA Scholar Athlete in 2005, 2004, 2003, and 2002, Kim was the MVP of her PVHS team in 2005 and Team Captain in both 2005 and 2006. Statistically, Kim had a 92% save percentage junior year and a 100% post season save percentage (6 games, 36 shots, 0 scored) in the 2005 season. Kim is also a four-year varsity softball and basketball player (8-11th grade) and was a captain of all three teams in her junior year. Kim was also all-state and all section in 2006. She was a 5 yr varsity basketball player and is now playing lacrosse on the new varsity girls lacrosse team in PV. She has played 15 varsity seasons and over 300 games and was Captain of all 3 sports she played in her junior and senior year.
Kim is strong in academics and was class vice president for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. She also plays the drums in the worship band in church on Sundays and volunteers in the nursery at church. The Boston University field hockey team is currently ranked 20 in the nation.
