Anita Prentice Announces Candidacy for Re-Election to Garrison School Board
"Serving on a public school Board of Education means making public policy, and it's hard: no decision we make can please every member of the public. Serving on a School Board means being part of a policy-making team of Board members and school administrators who listen, argue, reflect, and form the best possible decisions we can. Serving on a School Board means serving a community, being part of a community, and expanding our concept of community. And, serving on a School Board finally means helping children, and that is absolutely the best part about it.
"I am writing to ask Garrison School District taxpayers to re-elect me to the Garrison Board of Education on May 15. It has been an honor to work with my Board colleagues and Superintendent Gloria Colucci, and together we have seen many positive developments in the School's programs and achievements.
"In my non-School Board life, I am the director of St. Philip's Nursery School. In previous lives, I have been a banker, and editor, and a computer teacher, obtaining a BA and teaching certification from Boston University and an MA from The Johns Hopkins University. Currently, I am enrolled in an MAT program at Manhattanville College. My husband, Nat, grew up here in Garrison; we have three children ages 23, 21, and 19.
"This coming year, 2008, marks the 100th anniversary of the original Garrison School stone building, and the District will be planning a range of activities inside and outside the classroom to celebrate our school and our community; I look forward to being part of that effort. Please call me or email me if you have any questions at all: 424-3663; aprentice@gufs.org."
