Putnam Hospital Center Auxiliary Recognized on Health Care Auxilian Day
Governor Eliot Spitzer has proclaimed May 9, 2007 as Health Care Auxilian Day in New York State to recognize the dedicated auxilians who annually donate more than five million hours of service to their health care facilities and to their communities.
At Putnam Hospital Center, the Auxiliary, which numbers 329 men and women members, is dedicated to raising money for Putnam Hospital Center, serving as volunteers and acting as liaisons and sources of information to the community.
The PHC Auxiliary raises funds for the hospital by sponsoring Kids' Day at Putnam Hospital Center (May 5, 2007), operating the Eagle Eye Thrift Shop (on Main Street in Brewster) and the Eagle Eye Too Thrift Shop (on Route 6 in Mahopac), and running the hospital's Gift Shop along with a variety of other fundraising projects throughout the year.
To date, the Auxiliary has donated over $5 million to the hospital, according to PHC Auxiliary President Peg Lindblom. (over) In addition to their fundraising efforts, Auxilians are active in such inservice hospital volunteer programs as escort transportation, reception desk staffing, menu distribution, clerical assistance and friendly patient visitors. Auxiliary outreach to the community is evidenced in a number of areas- community food drives, the telephone reassurance program for the homebound, and printed communications to the hospital's various constituencies. Individuals interested in becoming members of the Putnam Hospital Center Auxiliary and/or obtaining more information about the organization should call the hospital's Volunteer Department at 845-279-5711, Ext. 2453.
