Philipstown Road Crew Showed Dedication in "Flood of '07"
To The Editor:

Roger Chirico and the Philipstown Road Crew performed heroic feats following the "Flood of '07." I live on Old Albany Post Road, which was washed out in three places, and sustained a tremendous amount of other damage. All three washed out areas were passable by Wednesday, and most of the road had been smoothed out by Friday, which is incredibly fast.

I would like to commend Mr. Chirico for having the foresight to replace a collapsed culvert pipe that directs water flow from a wetland on our property. If this pipe had not been replaced (approximately two weeks before the heavy rain), there would most certainly have been a fourth wash-out, which would have trapped those of us who live between this swamp and the stream that washed out the road about a mile and a half north, leaving us with no access to Rt. 9 what so ever.

I hope I speak for all the residents of Old Albany Post Road when I say that we cherish our dirt road and we appreciate the support we get from the Town to maintain our road. And Roger Chirico and the Philipstown Road Crew deserve our support for their dedication and hard work, which enables us to preserve this 6.8-mile stretch of American history.

Ann Galler Philipstown
