Philipstown Pirates Senior League Wins Season Opener in 10 Innings!

In the Philipstown Senior League 15 & 16 year old division, Will Dean took the hill. Teaming up with Kyle Van Tassel (catcher) to open up the season. Dean went four innings striking out 8 (4 looking), one pickoff and striking out the side twice allowing one earned run.

Philipstown had wait to the third inning with Rafael Famighetti, connecting for line drive to left field, for the first hit of the season. The Philipstown rally was quickly squashed by a tough Fishkill defense.

Our official team golf pro, Max Miller, took the mound in the 5th giving up only two hits and going 6 scoreless innings, striking out 4 with eight fly outs.

With the Pirates down 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th and one out, Van Tassel singled and stole second. Two outs and batter John (JJ) Dean hitting a sharp single, driving in Van Tassel put the Philipstown squad on the board. A wild pitch and stolen base moved Dean to third. But a flawless Fishkill defense swiftly killed the two out rally.

In the bottom of the seventh, Philipstown down 2-1 and one out Ben Thomas walked, Billy Campbell pitch ran working his way over stealing second. Christian Callaghan moved Campbell over to third on a fielder's choice. With two out W. Dean drove in a speedy Campbell, sending the game into extra innings.

Fishkill rallied in the top of the tenth but a miraculous catch by center fielder Campbell squashed Fishkill's late game opportunity. In the bottom of the tenth, with two out Van Tassel took one for the team and quickly got into scoring position stealing second. A tough hitting Matt Callindrillo, drove a 1-2 pitch to the right field fence sending the winning run home. Other notables; superior defense by Derek O'Dell and Nick Torchia. The final score was Philipstown 3, Fishkill 2.

The team is coached by Jerry O'Dell, Phil Callindrillo, and Jay Dean
