Philipstown Pirates Win Two Games in Senior League Weekend Action
Team starts season 3-0

The Philipstown Pirates, 15 and 16 year old division, sponsored by Powers and Haar Inc, hosted Fishkill Carting at Mayors Park on April 28. Kyle Van Tassel took the hill for his first season start teaming up with Nick Torchia (catcher). Van Tassel pitched a gem giving up only two hits and whiffing 9 Fishkill batters.

Fence buster, Derek O'Dell supplied the offense going two for two, a walk, 5 stolen bases, 1 RBI and batted in twice by "warning track power" Matt Calandrillo. The hometown squad scattered 9 hits and left 9 Pirates on base.

Fishkill's only rally came in the 4th with Torchia throwing out a runner stealing second followed shortly by a double play going home to first.

Final score: Philipstown Pirates 3 Fishkill Carting 1

On Sunday, April 29 Poughkeepsie North visited the Pirates for the first time this season. Max Miller took the mound for his first start of the season, teamed up with Rafael Famighetti (catcher). Max went three strong innings, striking out 3 Poughkeepsie batters giving up only one hit, walking 2 and one earned run.

Rafael Famighetti threw out two runners stealing, killing several Poughkeepsie rallies. Raf reached base twice, with 2 RBI's, and scored both times.

In the third inning with the score Philipstown 3 and Poughkeepsie 1, Conor McCann blew the game wide open delivering a line drive to left center field, driving in two runs. A late rally by the in the 5th generating four consecutive hits by W. Dean, Will Charkowski, Ben Thomas, and Billy Campbell put two more runs on the board.

Will Dean went three innings, striking out 3, yielding one hit and pitching to a minimum 9 batter. Billy Campbell closed the game out, taking the hill for his first appearance of the season striking out 1.

Other notes: Kyle Van Tassel went 2 for 3 hitting form both sides of the plate and scored twice. Tough defense by Ben Thomas with 2 catches. Pirates stranded 8 men
