Putnam Arts Council Finds Temporary Home at Tilly Foster Farm
The Putnam Arts Council is pleased to announce that they will be taking up temporary residence at the Tilly Foster Farm at 100 Route 312 in Brewster. After suffering serious damage from fire to their building at 521 Kennicut Hill Road in Mahopac, known as the Belle Levine Art Center, the Arts Council's winter classes were completed at the Mahopac Library, the Yasuragi Center and the Southeast Museum. Spring classes will also be held at alternative locations starting May 12.
Putnam County has kindly offered the Council a home for the next phase of recovery - a space where they can have offices and classes in one location while their building is being reconstructed. Summer classes for adults and kids as well as the popular "Express Yourself" summer program for kids ages 6-13, will be held at the farm. The Arts Council will remain there until their building is ready to be re-occupied.
Tilly Foster Farm is a very large and beautiful horse farm which is owned and operated by Putnam County. It has a variety of buildings on it in addition to the horse barns and may acres of rolling pastures.
"The County has given us a wonderful opportunity here to continue operation. The farm is a gorgeous setting and it's conveniently located for our students - only about 6 miles up the road. We will be completely up and running by mid- May! " said Joyce Picone, Executive Director of the Arts Council. "We plan to hold our very popular summer program for children here as well. They'll love the horses."
The regular Summer Session of classes for adults will begin on June 29 and continue for 6 weeks. The "Express Yourself" program for children 6-13 runs from July 2 - 27. A special August session in pottery and painting is also planned and includes a children's pottery class.
