"Songs, Lieder Chansongs Airs and Tunes" at Howland Center

On Saturday, May 12, at 8pm, The Howland Cultural Center, located 477 Main Street, Beacon, presents "Songs. Lieder, Chansons, Airs & Tunes", a recital of classical art song and show music with soprano Julie Ziavras with pianist/composer and Broadway orchestrator Steve Margoshes. Tickets are $15. Artist reception to follow concert.

Renowned Greek American soprano Julie Ziavras and celebrated pianist/composer and Broadway orchestrator Steve Margoshes showcase their diversity in a refreshingly innovative program that will introduce audiences to new songs that will reach their hearts as well as entertain them with songs they already know and love. Julie Ziavras and Steve Margoshes are world class classical musicians who also have careers in musical theater, opera, folk, ethnic music and rock opera. Featured are works sung in English, French, Spanish and German by Mahler, Fauré, R. Strauss, Grainger, Gershwin and Weill. Showcased are Margoshes' original works that include memorable songs from his original scores of Fame, The Musical and its sequel Fame Forever, which premieres in the United Kingdom in April 2007.

The Howland Cultural Center, housed in a beautiful Victorian former library, has ongoing art exhibitions and hosts internationally renowned classical performers. For information, directions and tickets, please call 845-831-4988 or 845-831-4614.
