Cello and Piano Duo to Perform Chamber Recital at St. Mary's

The Gee-Mackey Duo will perform a chamber recital of music for cello and piano on Saturday, May 26th at 7:30pm in the Episcopal Church of St. Mary-in-the-Highlands, Cold Spring. Repertoire will include works of Chopin, Faure, Falla, Rebecca Clarke, and others. The concert is being given as a memorial to Gertrude Genesse. She was a longtime resident of Cold Spring who donated the Steinway grand piano to St. Mary's in the 1970s, in honor of her late husband, Dr. Louis Genesse.

Both members of the Duo have a personal connection to Cold Spring. Cellist David Gee, who currently lives in Columbia, South Carolina, is originally from Hopewell Junction and attended St. Mary's Church with his parents, Judge William and Renée Gee, while growing up. Pianist Lynne Mackey knew Gertrude Genesee as the closest friend of her grandmother, Elizabeth Mackey of Flint, Michigan, who had grown up in Cold Spring. Mackey's grandmother and Gertrude Genesse remained lifelong friends into their 90's, visiting one another for the last time in 1985, when Mackey played a solo recital in St. Mary's Church.

The Gee-Mackey Duo was formed in 2004. Both cellist David Gee, and pianist Lynne Mackey have toured as soloists in the United States as well as internationally. David Gee, (MM, Yale) is currently principal cellist for the Augusta, Georgia Symphony. He plays a cello made by Antonius Guadagnini, currently on loan from The Holm Foundation.

Pianist Lynne Mackey (DMA. Eastman School of Music, MM, The Juilliard School), performs on the Tour Roster of the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and teaches at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Duo recently premiered two commissions of works by David Long and Craig Naylor, with a third premier to be performed next season at Concord University in West Virginia.

The concert is free of charge. Donations are welcome, and will be given to a special fund for maintenance of the Steinway. St. Mary's Church is located at 1 Chestnut Street, Cold Spring.
